Bagnaia, the sea just steps from the hotel
There’s a moment every day in Bagnaia that becomes a little ritual: as the sun sets behind Portoferraio, the sky lights up in red and purple, a palette that changes every evening. It’s well worth stopping to watch, ideally with your feet still in the sand and your camera ready to shoot.
Just 30 metres from Hotel Punta Pina lies Bagnaia beach, a medium-sized cove with a fine gravel seabed, perfect for everyone: families with children, couples after some peace and quiet, groups of friends. The view runs straight across to Portoferraio, its walls tracing the horizon and framing the whole gulf.
Free beach and beach clubs
Those who love laying their towel down wherever they fancy will find plenty of open space, while anyone after a bit more comfort can head to Lo Scoglietto or Sunset beach clubs: sunbeds, umbrellas, changing cabins and hot and cold showers, open from 1 June to 15 September.
There’s plenty here for anyone who loves the sea in every form: two jetties, mooring buoys, boat, dinghy and pedalo hire, plus a sailing school for beginners and those wanting to improve. And for a match with friends, there’s also a beach volleyball court, always ready to go.
From here it’s easy to explore further: by boat or canoe you can reach the other beaches nearby, both to the left and, especially, to the right of Bagnaia — coves often only reachable by sea, set along a coastline that’s kept all its wild character.
The village, small but authentic
Bagnaia has managed to keep its Elban soul intact, without chasing mass tourism.
For those who’d rather not wander far, the village still has a few bars and restaurants to grab a bite, a small disco for livelier evenings, and a church, the quiet heart of the local community.
Bagnaia is also connected by local bus services to Portoferraio and Lacona, for anyone who wants to get around without a car and discover the rest of the island (see www.at-bus.it).
